Some Web 2.0 technologies that the podcast discussed that I find very useful in the classroom are YouTube and blogs. In my experience, teachers constantly use YouTube during their lesson to show a short clip that adds to lesson. I find this very engaging, students may not be as attentive if they are sitting through a long class period of the teacher lecturing the whole time. YouTube can help break apart the lesson and keep students interested. Blogs can also be useful in the classroom so all students have a chance to express their ideas. Some students may not want to speak up during class but have great things to say. A blog is a great tool so all students can comfortably express their thoughts and they can collaborate with each other. Although Twitter has some positives like being able to connect directly with authors, scientists, etc. I don't find Twitter to be the best tool in the classroom. There are better ways to have students do collaborative work such as the blogs.
A Web 2.0 tool that I may use while teaching would be Library Thing. This a great tool for teachers to use in the classroom. It is a great source for my students to connect with each other and others about books we would be reading throughout the school year. This is pretty interesting to me since there are so many users on the site and I believe it could really aide in my students understanding about the reading material. librarything.com
Gesture-based multitouch displays are a technology advancement that I believe holds the biggest promise for education. This technology is very useful for the classroom, it allows images to be brought to life and the kids will stay more engaged. For example, it is useful for science because it allows you to see an image of a molecule and then allows you to rearrange the elements and see all sides making it easier to understand for the student. When students can use more of their senses during learning it will help them pay more attention and retain the information.
